The Problem – Candida Overgrowth
A healthy gut has millions of good bacteria in place to aid in digestion, absorb nutrients, burn fat in a healthy way, maintain energy levels, and so much more. However, when this good bacteria is wiped out due to poor diet or the overuse of antibiotics, candida (a fungal type of yeast) takes over your digestive system, specifically your intestines. This takeover results in a surplus of candida yeast overgrowth and several symptoms which will make you feel lethargic and even gain weight.
The problem comes when candida overgrowth is left untreated, as it can break down your intestine’s walls, filling the bloodstream with toxins in a condition known as “leaky gut,” and producing symptoms such as:
- Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
- Severe sugar and carb cravings
- Headaches
- Irritated skin (eczema and psoriasis)
- Fatigue or exhaustion
- Fibromyalgia
- Crohn’s Disease
- Digestive issues (ulcerative colitis)
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Difficulty concentrating
The American diet and lifestyle, full of heavily processed foods, carbohydrates, sugars, and antibiotics, has created an epidemic of yeast overgrowth in the population. However, because the symptoms are common, it goes undiagnosed in so many people.
